Owner, The Pethel Group, LLC
Matthew Pethel is the founder and CEO of The Pethel Group, LLC which he launched in 2012. A 1998 graduate of Jackson County Comprehensive School, he also attended Gainesville State College. Pethel has been a Principal of North Georgia Log Homes, a company started by Matthew’s father, Freddie. Together, the Pethels have established their stellar reputation among builders nationwide. Matthew is currently on the Architectural Review Board for The Ranches at Belt Creek in Belt, Montana; Board of Directors of the Jackson County Builders’ Association; Executive Building Consultant for Natural Element Homes; and he is a Principal in East Lake Partners, LLC, a local investment company. He and his wife, Andrea, share three children.
Freddie Pethel launched North Georgia Log Homes in 1987. The company specializes in construction and sales of high-end residential homes. A testimony to his integrity is the fact that during the company’s many years as a member of the Better Business Bureau, there has never been a complaint filed against them. A second generation builder, Pethel holds his Georgia Real Estate License and is a member of the Jackson County Builders’ Association. Pethel is a native of Jackson County Georgia. He and his wife, Shirley, have shared 40 years of marriage. They have two children and five grandchildren. The Pethels attend Talmo Baptist Church.
Glenn York is from Benoit, Mississippi and attended Mississippi State University before beginning a twenty year career in television operations, including ten years at WLOS-TV in Asheville, North Carolina. His extensive background in writing, marketing, and sales training led him to establish York Creative Services, a marketing and creative service company that has been involved in numerous branding and envisioning sessions for real estate properties throughout the southeast. For three years, he was a full partner and VP of Marketing for Creative Communities where he successfully branded Harmony Township, Providence Ferry and Bays at Litchfield. From 2010 – 2013, York was the General Manager of The Ranches at Belt Creek, a shared residential ranch community located in Belt, Montana. He joined The Pethel Group, LLC in 2013. York currently resides in Jefferson, Georgia.
A Madison, Wisconsin native, Laura Sterns graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. From 1995-2003 Laura held several positions in Sales, and Brand and Trade Marketing with a multi-billion dollar consumer products firm, Spectrum Brands. In 1999, Laura transferred to Europe, overseeing the creative and budgetary aspects of all trade promotions as Senior Trade Marketing Manager for Rayovac Europe. In 2003, she returned to combine her natural creativity and passion for design with her strong business training to launch Studio 21 Interiors. Laura brings a strong understanding of how to use design to support a client’s overall brand identity. Laura’s classic design sense and her expertise in both the construction and furnishing phases of design continue to win her loyal clients throughout the southeast.
In addition to her work with Studio 21, Laura is active in the Athens Area Home Builders Association and a repeated contributor to the design features in Athens Magazine. She has also been honored for Outstanding Rehabilitation by the Athens Clarke County Heritage Foundation. Laura and her husband, Ken, currently reside in Athens, Georgia.
With over thirty years of building and design experience James H. Klippel (Jim) has the knowledge and passion to approach each new site and each client's wishes with fresh and inspired enthusiasm. Working many years in a collaborative spirit with local and national artisans, his design-build team creates an enjoyable "one stop shop" for architecture and construction finishes, furnishings and artwork. JHK Design relies on a core group of affiliates to make your home plan design, building process and living experience an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Winner of numerous regional and national architectural design awards, Jim specializes in designs that merge drama, open flow and natural light while incorporating natural materials and the newest technologies in energy conservation.
In 2012, Jim won first place in the ARDA, national design competition for his rustic passive solar home built of native woods, stone and glass. He is a professional member of the AIBD and the GA Green Building Council, and an NCBDC certified building designer. In 2006 Jim was awarded “Design Member of the Year” by the GA chapter of the AIBD. Jim has completed the H.E.R.S. RESNET® written certification. As a Certified RESNET® Home Energy Rater, Jim will be qualified to design, inspect, and test homes to determine their rating on the H.E.R.S. Index. His knowledge of the RESNET® standards benefits Jim when he designs new homes for clients as he is always ahead of the curve on the newest energy efficiency programs.
